Fruit Season has arrived!

E arly to mid June is when our fruit trees start displaying promising signs of bountiful fruit to be harvested in the forthcoming months.  Its an exciting moment when the first green fruits appear, though rock hard and unappetizing now they will slowly but surely, in the coming weeks, transform into sweet juicy morsels to be fought over by us, the squirrels and the black birds that eagerly anticipate their arrival.

Soon, we will be picking the freshest figs to serve for breakfast or to have grilled and served with goats cheese....

... raspberries and redcurrants will be on the menu for glorious pink desserts and on top of sugary pavlovas......

..... and hopefully we will be harvesting the sweetest of plums at all hours of the day.  These tiny little green plums remind me of a particular pickled food commonly eaten in Asia where the unripened fruit is preserved in vinegar and sugar and eaten as a snack.  I'm half tempted to pick some off the ground and throw them into a sterile jar filled with vinegar.

We will be baking and cooking a lot of apples to make lovely warm crumbles and tarts.....

Johnonymous will make a jelly from the quinces which we will serve with one of our favourite cheeses "Manchego" - the saltiness of which will perfectly complement the tartness of the quince ...

And in the meantime, I will sit and wait, watch and keep on learning about new recipes and ideas for all this fruit!  Patience is a virtue... slurp....
